Polished for a Purpose
Psalm 144:12 …that our daughters may be as corner stones. polished after the similitude of a palace.

“By daughters families are united and connected, to their mutual strength, as the parts of a building are by the corner-stones; and when they are graceful and beautiful both in body and mind they are then polished after the similitude of a nice and curious structure.” (excerpt of MH Commentary)
We, as daughters of the King, must realize the necessary role we play in our homes. The corner stone is a vital part of the structure. It brings stability to the walls, strength to the roof above, and shows whether the foundation is trustworthy or not. On this truth, our lives should bring stability to our siblings, encouragement to the authorities in our lives, and shine the Gospel of the Bible to the world around.
Taking it a step further, “Polished after the similitude of a palace” has the idea of not leaving the corner stone as just a plain, unattractive piece of block in the edge of a building, but bringing it to its fullest potential in beauty. This process first of all requires work. We all enjoy seeing the finished product of a project such as painting a room or re-decorating. However, its in the middle mile that you can become tired and impatient. This is when you must remind yourself of the joy that will be experienced in the end. In the same way, we must remember the trying times are to purify from uncleanness and polish into true character.
For the building of a palace, no expense is spared nor energy stifled: All details must be perfectly designed by a master builder. Christ, our Master Builder, desires to polish us with his beautifying character in order to make us into His perfect design.
